Parking at VAMC Poplar Bluff

Parking

Free parking is available to all patients and visitors of the VAMC.  All parking areas are clearly identified and each space is outlined with yellow lines.  Vehicles will be parked between the yellow lines. Overnight parking is not authorized on VAMC property.

Visitor/Outpatient parking is located on Lot "A" in front of the medical center and will not be used by employees from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.  Additional parking spaces are reserved for outpatients from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily on the upper west side south of Building No. 1, on Parking Lot "F".

At the urgent care entrance, vehicles will not use or park in the ambulance lane (closest to the door.)  The middle lane allows pick-up/drop-off, with no waiting.  The outside (first) lane allows 5-10 minute parking for short-term facility access.

Contractor employees who are not working out of their vehicle(s) will be required to park in Lot "E" (by the staging area) and/or in spaces designated by the Police Service.

Employees will contact the Chief of Police Service, in person, at least one day in advance, to make arrangements to park trailers, boats, etc.  Upon notification, the Chief, Police Service will approve/disapprove the request.  Trailers will be parked in the staging area by Lot "E" on a space available basis and are expected to be removed at the end of the employee's tour of duty.

Handicapped Parking

Reserved parking areas are provided for handicapped persons. These areas are identified by signs and are reserved Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for veterans, employees and visitors. This VAMC follows the local law of Missouri and accepts handicapped placards and license plate markings from all the states. Disabled Veteran license plates do not meet the criteria for handicapped space usage unless they have a small blue wheelchair marking on them. Handicapped spaces are available at both the North and South entrances and we maintain additional handicapped spaces in Parking Lots “A”, “B”, “C” and “D”. If individuals require assistance in getting into / out of their vehicle, they may park under the canopy of the ambulance entrance (do not block entrance doorway), and a police officer will assist.

Security

Enforcement of parking and moving vehicle policies is the responsibility of the Chief, Police Service.  Violations of the medical center parking and traffic policies can result in disciplinary action and/or monetary fines under Section 218 of Title 38 U.S.C.  Our police officers provide 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots.  The speed limit on VA Medical Center property is established at 15 m.p.h. and no speed in excess will be tolerated.  Observance to all regulatory signs such as "STOP", "SLOW", OR "SPEED LIMIT" is mandatory.

For general police assistance, please dial 5-4210.  In case of an emergency, dial 5-4357 (5-HELP).  Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible.

Because the VA Medical Center is federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search.  In additional, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal substances are permitted.

All exterior doors to the hospital, except the ambulance entrance, are locked between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. with the exception of the access door to the smoking shelter.  Access door to the smoking shelter will be locked at 10:00 p.m. daily.
